Benue killings: Ortom just sees other people’s issues – Presidency

The Presidency expressed worry on Thursday about Benue state Governor Samuel Ortom’s remarks about President Muhammadu Buhari and the federal government.

“President Buhari consistently emphasizes that the power of our nation lies in our diversity of religion, culture, and customs, and efforts to widen the gap between northern and southern Nigeria, Muslims and Christians, and cultures that have coexisted for centuries should be frowned upon and resisted.
“As Nigerians, we accuse colonial rulers of a divide-and-rule approach. Today, it is our own politicians who pit one area against another, one religion against another, one ethnic group against another, and one race against another.
“The future of Benue State, and indeed the whole world, lies in unity and reverence for law, justice, and the constitution.” It is the only way to move forward and improve.
“While the President will need to keep defense, police, and the armed forces on their toes in troubled areas of the world, all working together will profoundly help the situation in the states because it is the basis on which progress and development will be accomplished.
“Benue, under the Ortom administration, should work with the Federal Government to enact a series of national strategic initiatives aimed at solving underlying problems impeding stability, progress, and growth. This is still possible if the needs of the people are prioritized above all other considerations. A government elected by the people should regard the people as masters rather than servants.”
