2023 Presidebcy: Transition of Power Will Be Free and Fair. – FG
The Federal Government has assured that the transition of power from President Muhammadu Buhari to the president-elect, Bola Tinubu, will be a smooth process.
Speaking with journalists in Abuja on Tuesday, March 28, the chairman of the Transition Committee, Boss Mustapha, confirmed that the process of power transition on Monday, May 29, will be peaceful.
NrwsReport indicate that Mustapha affirmed that all allegations against the president-elect, the All Progressives Congress (APC), and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) cannot prevent the event from taking place.
He also said that the security subcommittee had been saddled with the responsibility to ensure no one truncated the handover.
His words:
“All litigation, whether resolved or not, will not in any way stop the process. The president is not spending a day extra in office. The security committee has the responsibility to ensure that nothing happens to truncate the transition process. Nigerians are very law-abiding people.
“Whoever has lost an election, there are avenues provided for those people to make whatever legal inquiry they want to make, but the process would continue unabated. We would not create another constitutional crisis. On May 29, the handover will take place.”
Peter Obi of the Labour Party and Atiku Abubakar of the People’s Democratic Party have been warned by some protesters.
The protesters urged the two presidential candidates in the 2023 presidential election to kill the idea of an interim government.
They warned that the spirit of June 12, which saw the announcement of the late Moshood Kashimawo Abiola’s mandate, is upon the nation and will be resisted.
The over N3 billion INEC votes are dedicated to defending different petitions challenging the outcome of the elections held on February 25 and March 18, 2023.
Presently, more than 100 election petitions have been filed by candidates and their parties who are dissatisfied with the poll’s outcome throughout the country.
Aside from Atiku and Obi, other presidential candidates currently challenging the poll’s outcome include Solomon Okangbuan of the Action Alliance (AA) and Chichi Ojei of the Allied People’s Movement (APM), who are asking the court to nullify the presidential election result.
