The remark made last night to Lagos by President Muhammadu Buhari, speaking about the future of the APC, is quite different from party stalwart Asiwaju Bola Tinubu.

NewsReport gathered that when he was questioned what the President’s wish for the APC after his tenure, during his appearance with Arise TV, he said: “The administration’s hope is to see the APC later.

We should therefore allow the party to make a decision. For example, you can’t sit in Lagos and decide the fate of zoning in APC. With the membership card registration, the party’s reconstruction has started from bottom to top. Each party member must participate.

“Our convention will be held soon. No single party member will be permitted to oppose the party’s wish. We should make it possible for the party to decide.”

Senior Special Assistant to the President of the Media and Publicity, Mallam Garaba Shehu explained in a statement yesterday night: ‘The presidency would like to disassociate President Buhari from a vicious campaign to wedge him and his stalwart friend, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

“This is nothing but a disgusting attempt to pull the President into controversy. It should not fall upon our citizenry and, in particular, members.

“The ruling party, the APC, unlike previous parties before the party was a popular political one owned by its entire membership, so during the 45-minute interview, the President made the point that neither he nor any of the leaders could impose on the party their objectives.

“This is a fundamental agreement that binds the whole leadership of the party. The leaders of the party remain fully committed to the values of democratic standards and mechanisms for succession.

“He mentioned Lagos, as the opposition party’s predatory concepts put it to harm the wonderful connection between the two of them, did not refer to respected party leader Senator Bola Tinubu.
