The apartment of Supreme Court Justice Mary Odili has been visited by armed agents of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Newsreport gathered.

According to sources, the agents arrived at Mrs. Odili’s Abuja apartment on Friday evening with urgent plans to break in. The judge quickly and vehemently opposed the operatives’ attempts to raid her home, claiming she had no business with them.

“She instructed them to go see her spouse because she doesn’t have any problem pending before them,” our source added on the condition of anonymity because they had not been granted authorization to talk on an ongoing operation. Armed police officers were also believed to be among the nearly 50 operators involved in the operation.

Peter Odili, the Supreme Court justice’s spouse and former Rivers governor, has been charged with corruption by the EFCC. Earlier this week, a federal judge ordered the immediate release of his foreign passport, stating that anti-graft prosecutors had failed to establish grounds for the politician’s passport to be continuously seized.

Officials could not immediately say whether or not the ongoing standoff at Mrs. Odili’s residence was because of her husband’s case.

The development comes five years after operatives of the State Security Service broke into the residences of over a dozen federal judges, including three of the Supreme Court at the time. Some of the judges have since died, with their family members their health deteriorated following the raids.
