Mary Ogbeifu, 35, and her 17-year-old son, Godwin Ogbeifu, have been detained by personnel from the Ogun State Police Command for the heinous murder of their 60-year-old neighbor, Iyabo Olasheinde NewsReport gathered.

 

According to a statement released by DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi, spokesperson of the state police command, the suspects were arrested following a distress call received by the police at Ojodu Abiodun divisional headquarters, and that while Godwin Ogbeifu, who resides at Akoko Crescent, Yakoyo area of Ojodu, went to the compound of the deceased at Omolara street Yakoyo, he was sent away having been warned previously not to come there.

 

“When he returned home, he notified his mother, who followed him to the compound where the body was.” While the mother was arguing with the deceased and demanding to know why her son had been taken away, the son, who is deaf and dumb, seized a broken bottle he had brought with him and stabbed the deceased in the neck.

 

The DPO Ojodu Abiodun, SP Eyitayo Akinluwade gathered his men and hurried to the spot, where the two suspects were captured and the victim was brought to a local hospital for treatment, but she was pronounced dead by the doctor on duty.”

 

Oyeyemi went on to say that the deceased’s body has been deposited at the mortuary for autopsy. He stated that the state commissioner of police, CP Lanre Bankole, has directed that the suspects be immediately transferred to the homicide section of the state criminal investigation and intelligence department for further investigation, with the intention of charging them in court once the investigation is completed.
