Senate President disclosed the region to generate

The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) would likely zone the Senate presidency seat to the Southeast zone, according to information obtained.

NewsReport learned that according to sources, considering the fact that the president-elect, Bola Tinubu, hails from the Southwest region and the vice president-elect, Kashim Shettima, from the Northeast, the Southeast zone is favorably disposed to securing the seat of the No. 3 citizen of Nigeria.

This newspaper reported that top southeast APC politicians like Orji Uzor Kalu, the senator representing Abia North Senatorial District, and Dave Umahi, the incumbent governor of Ebonyi State, are among those lobbying for the position.

A member of the National Working Committee (NWC) of the APC said some elders of the party believe that zoning the Senate presidency seat to the south and east will create a balance of power.

“Having missed out on the presidential contest in all parties at a time when the clamor for a president of Igbo extraction was high, it is in the interest of the APC to zone the number three political position to the South East,” he said.

The NWC member added: “There is tension already, and the party is determined to reduce it by doing its best to zone its offices, beginning with the Senate Presidency in the South East.”
