VP Kashim Shettima launched a $115M terminal at Onne Seaport.
The ceremony took place on Wednesday, with Shettima represented by his Personal Assistant on Subnational Infrastructure, Mr. Musaddiq Mustapha.
Shettima reaffirmed the federal government’s commitment to infrastructure as a key driver of economic growth. He noted that the new facility, featuring advanced terminal machinery, technology, an administrative building, a maintenance workshop, and an upgraded CCTV system, will significantly enhance operational efficiency.
He stated, “Today’s event celebrates WACT and its partners’ commitment and marks a new chapter for Onne Port,” adding that the equipment will foster greater trade opportunities in Nigeria’s maritime sector.

Mr. Frederik Klinke, Managing Director of APM Terminals, praised the federal government for fostering a conducive business environment in Nigeria and highlighted the company’s strong safety record over nearly three decades of operation. He also mentioned APM Terminals’ commitment to community development through various manpower programs.
Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Mr. Gboyega Oyetola, commended APM Terminals for its investment in WACT and assured support for terminal operators in modernizing the port and reducing operational costs. Comptroller-General of Customs, Mr. Adewale Adeniyi, noted that the WACT upgrade would enhance the Nigeria Customs Service’s revenue generation capabilities.
