Olanrewaju James, also known as Baba Ijesha, the embattled Nollywood actor, has denied hiring Adeshina Ogunlana, the former Chairman of the Nigerian Bar Association’s Ikeja Branch, as his counsel.
NewsReport Nigeria reports that on Saturday, the actor issued a statement through his lawyer, Kayode Olabisan, claiming that he never briefed Ogunlana to be his legal representation.
“I would like to clarify definitely and unequivocally that I have never briefed the lawyer or ordered him to act on my behalf in any way, shape, or form this online news medium understand.
“He (Ogunlana) is not my lawyer, and everything you hear or read from him about my lawyers, the police, or the court case is not accurate.
He stated, “He has been acting without my knowledge or consent.”

Baba Ijesha has been granted bail in the amount of N500,000.
The actor was arrested by authorities for allegedly sexually assaulting and defiling Princess, the comedienne’s 14-year-old foster daughter.
Despite a strike by court workers, a magistrate granted the comedian bail on Monday.
The actor was never asked for money for his bail, which was granted by a magistrate on health reasons, according to the disclaimer.
“This is in addition to the N500,000 refundable bail money that the court imposed as part of my bail conditions.
The disclaimer stated, “The bail bond is payable to the court registry’s account, not the police account.”
The actor was granted bail on May 17 by a committee from the Lagos State Judiciary, the Nigerian Bar Association, and the state Ministry of Justice, according to Olabiran.
In an endeavor to decongest police stations across Lagos State, the team visited the State Criminal Investigation Department Panti, Yaba, Lagos.
The actor had met all of the bail requirements, according to his lawyer, but had not yet been legally released by the court.
“He is still in police custody, and we are hoping the judges, as well as a team from the Lagos State Ministry of Justice and the Lagos State Directorate of Public Prosecution, will return to Panti next week.
“It’s one thing to be granted bail, and it’s quite another to have your release conditional on satisfying all of the requirements.
Meanwhile, Ogunlana revealed in an interview with Saturday Punch that when he visited Panti and observed his “pitiful condition,” he only volunteered to “represent” the actor.
