NewsReport gathered that, H.E. Moussa Faki Mahamat, Chairperson of the African Union Commission, is happy to announce the appointment of former President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, H.E. Olusegun Obasanjo, as his High Representative for the Horn of Africa region.
This decision is in line with the African Union’s efforts to foster peace, security, stability, and political discourse throughout the Horn of Africa.
The High Representative will, in particular, step up engagements with all important political actors and stakeholders in the region in order to establish long-term peace and stability in the Horn of Africa.
H.E. President Olusegun Obasanjo’s acceptance of this important political task in the Union’s collective interest is deeply appreciated by the Commission’s Chairperson. Former Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo brings with him a wealth of political experience, impeccable credentials, and a strong dedication to Pan-Africanism, regional integration, and collaboration, as well as a thorough understanding of the current situation in the Horn of Africa.
As a result, the Commission’s Chairperson appeals to all parties and the international community to provide the High Representative with all possible assistance when he arrives in the region in the coming weeks.
