The prestigious members of the Nollywood Ghana Chapter (NGC) gathered for their inaugural meeting in 2024, marking an important milestone for the organization. With a solemn opening prayer led by Apostle Frank Ogbu, the event got underway at roughly 3:48 pm and established a respectful tone for the activities that followed.
The Public Relations Officer (P.R.O.), Young Onos, extended a warm welcome to all attendees, expressing gratitude for the presence of the distinguished executives and introducing each member of the Executive Committee to the congress. Furthermore, individual introductions were made for both existing and new members, fostering a sense of camaraderie and inclusivity within the association.
Turning the spotlight on the President, the P.R.O. invited him to deliver his welcome address. The President, Mr. Destiny Austine Omon, commenced by offering thanks to the divine for bestowing grace upon the members, underscoring the significance of the inaugural meeting of the year. He expressed delight in witnessing new faces among the assembly, envisioning a future where their collective presence would fortify and elevate the association to greater heights. Assuring the members of the Executive Committee’s unwavering commitment to serving the association diligently in the upcoming year, he called for unity and collaboration among all members.
Subsequently, the Chief of Staff, John Izedonmi, reminisced about the get-together party, lauding the attendees for their active participation and convivial spirit. He extended an invitation to those who were absent at the gathering, urging their presence at the forthcoming event. Grateful for the generous contributions of food and beverages by members, he expressed heartfelt appreciation for their support, deeming the occasion a memorable and joyous affair.
Mr. Destiny Austine Omon, the President, took the floor once again, steering the discussion towards a somber note as he paid tribute to the departed actors, Sisi Quadri and Mr. Ibu. Reflecting on his visit to the Edo Film Festival in December of the previous year, the President underscored the wealth of opportunities available for actors, not only in Nigeria but also within the Ghana NGC. He recounted the resounding success of Edo actors in Ghana at the festival, emphasizing their integral role in the association’s agenda for growth and recognition. The film and entertainment industries commended Access Bank for providing outstanding support for the training of two million actors who wanted to become actors and filmmakers. Over two million people are going to benefit from the training opportunities made possible by this initiative, which will elevate standards and develop talent in the field.
Transitioning to the Chief of Staff’s address, he highlighted the establishment of a committee tasked with reviewing the NGC constitution. Encouraging a spirit of collaboration, he invited the committee leader, Apostle Frank Ogbu, to elucidate the proposed amendments to the constitution, emphasizing the importance of consensus-building and constructive dialogue. The committee’s commitment to enhancing the constitution’s efficacy and relevance was evident, as they pledged to submit the revised document to the Executive Committee for further review and deliberation.
