Former Manchester City captain has been offered a managerial position in the EPL
Vincent Kompany, a former Belgian professional football player who captained Manchester City during his career, has been appointed manager of Burnley.
NewsReport gathered that the EFL Championship club confirmed the news on Tuesday, June 14, 2022.
“We are thrilled to confirm Vincent Kompany’s hiring as first-team manager. “Welcome to Burnley, Vincent Kompany,” the club said today on its official Twitter account.
This online information recalls that Kompany retired from playing football on August 17, 2020. The now 36-year-old played for English Premier League champions, Manchester City for 11 seasons and captained the club eight seasons before his retirement.
Kompany who left his job as Anderlecht head coach last month said he was excited about his new career part.
“Burnley Football Club is a truly historic English side and it is an honour to be appointed first-team manager,” said Kompany, who takes over from caretaker Mike Jackson.
It could be recalled that Jackson have taken the managerial job at Burnley in April in replacement for Sean Dyche, but could not save the club from relegation to the second-tier Championship.
Speaking after his confirmation about the job at Burnley, Kompany said: “I’m excited by the challenge ahead. I’m looking forward to getting to work with the players and creating a positive, winning team for our fans when we return to Turf Moor.
“I’ve been impressed by the board’s vision for the club which aligns with my own and I look forward to playing my part as we enter an important season.”
