News Report gathered that the Nigerian Super Eagles continued their winning streak against the Falcons and True Parrots of Sao Tome and Principe with a 10 goal thrashing in their second qualifying encounter at Agadir Stadium in Morocco.
With the win, Nigeria now leads Group A with 6 points from two games and an 11-goal edge.
Victor Osimhen’s four-goal flurry helped Nigeria’s Super Eagles breeze over Sao Tome & Principe’s Seleço dos Falces e Papagaios on their way to Côte d’Ivoire 2023.
Goals from Oshimhen in 8, 48, 56, and 84 minutes, Moses Simon in 28 minutes, Moffi in 43, and 60 minutes, Etebo in the 55 minutes, Lookman in 63 minutes, and Dennis in the 92 minutes secured the victory over Sao Tome & Principe.
Jose Peseiro started the match with an attacking mindset as he adopted a 4:4:2 approach to run down the defense of the Seleção dos Falcões e Papagaios which paid off with Super Eagles now ahead of Guinea Bissau who defeated Sao Tome & Principe 5-0 in their first match played on Thursday, June 9.
Though the Super Eagles triumphed over their opponents with a wide margin, many football fans were not satisfied with the fitness level of the team and their inability to hold on to the ball.
Monday Festus told BusinessDay that most of the players were unable to hold on to the ball even when there was little or no threat. He singled Alex Iwobi as the main culprit of this.
“Iwobi is always passing out the ball even when no one is with him. That is not good for a team; it shows he lacks the confidence needed to play the holding midfield role. You could imagine Jay-Jay Okocha in such a match, you know what he would do,” he said.
Jacob Welle, a football fan, expressed his delight that the team is back to winning ways with a high margin but noted that the strength of the team cannot be really assessed with a team like Sao Tome.
“It is good they won with a great wide margin, but that is not a true reflection of the strength of the team. Most of the players seem to be unfit, you can see them falling even when there no threat. If it were a better team, I doubt if the Super Eagles would have been punished for some of their minor errors,” Welle noted.
