In a significant development for Nigeria’s energy landscape, the Dangote Petroleum Refinery has commenced the production of diesel and aviation fuel. Recognizing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s pivotal role, Alhaji Aliko Dangote expressed gratitude for the visionary leadership and prompt attention to details that facilitated the realization of this ambitious project. The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Limited), the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC), the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA), and the Nigerian people in general were also credited with helping to achieve this historic milestone.
The commencement of diesel and aviation fuel production marks a significant step forward for the refinery. Alhaji Aliko Dangote emphasized the importance of this achievement for Nigeria, highlighting its demonstration of the country’s ability to undertake and deliver large-scale capital projects. The arrival of six million barrels of crude oil at the refinery’s two Single Point Mooring (SPM) facilities, located 25 kilometers from the shore, demonstrates the refinery’s operational progress. The successful delivery of the first crude shipment on December 12, 2023, followed by subsequent deliveries, including the 6th cargo on January 8, 2024, signifies a promising start for the refinery’s production activities.
Furthermore, the refinery’s capacity to load 2,900 trucks per day at its truck-loading gantries is a testament to its operational scale. Importantly, the products from the refinery are designed to conform to Euro V specifications, aligning with global emission norms set by the World Bank, US EPA, European regulatory bodies, and the Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR).
