‘Yahoo yahoo’: NYSC Member bags 2 years in Prison

A National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) participant was found guilty of offenses that had some resemblance to internet fraud by a high court in Ilorin, Kwara state.

Christopher Adetuberu, an inmate serving time in Ogbomosho, Oyo state, was named as the offender.

The court issued the decision on Thursday at a sitting, according to NAN.

Adetuberu has been found guilty thanks to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCCIlorin )’s zonal command.

Ibrahim Yusuf, the presiding judge, said Adetuberu, 28, is guilty of the two counts of cyber-crime against him.

Yusuf sentenced the defendant to two years imprisonment with N200,000 as an option of fine.

He added that his conviction would serve as a deterrent to others.

The court also ordered the forfeiture of a three-bedroom flat acquired with the proceeds of the illegal activities.

Other items forfeited include a Lexus car, different brands of cellphones, a laptop, as well as the sum of N921, 535.49 found in his bank account to the federal government.

Adetuberu, who is an indigene of Ilesha, Ilesha West LGA of Osun, was arrested at Ogele area of Eyenkorin, Ilorin.

The convict had in the course of investigation revealed that he ventured into “yahoo yahoo business” in 2016.

He said he had among other things built a house with the proceeds of the illegal activities.
