V.P Osinbanjo: The Responsibility of Leadership Necessitates that we act in trust at all times.

The responsibility of leadership necessitates that we act in trust at all times.
According to Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, SAN, leaders must and are expected to remain calm in the face of adversity so that the people they lead will follow in their footsteps.
He made this statement today at the Redeemed Christian Church of God’s 25th-anniversary conference of the Redeemer’s International Leadership Academy, which was themed: Winning in Adversity.
“It is at times of adversity, difficulty, or hardship that leaders are most relevant and needed,” Prof Osinbajo said.
The leader can’t afford to lose his composure or concentration. He must both calm himself and the others around him.
“When everything is going well, there is no need for guidance, encouragement, or teaching,” the Vice President says, “but people look to leadership in the middle of wars, battles, insurgencies, famines, danger, and dread.”
“Moses looked up to God for help, and God spoke to Him,” Prof Osinbajo said, referring to the Bible’s tale of Moses and the Israelites. But notice how Moses initially instilled faith in God’s ability to deliver and fulfil His promises.
“He hadn’t heard from God on this particular issue yet, but he could say this with confidence because he knew the God he served.”
The VP underlined the importance of leaders remaining calm in the face of hardship, especially when the future appears bad, since “with difficulty, especially when the future appears bleak, people want to give up, retreat, go back, and they certainly don’t want to go forward.”
When faced with a crisis, especially an existential crisis, Prof. Osinbajo, an alumnus of the Academy, advised leaders, particularly Christian leaders, to act in faith rather than fear.
“God knows everything; we must obey in faith even when we are afraid,” he said. This is the responsibility of leadership, especially leadership based on biblical principles.”

Mr Kayode Pitan, CEO/Managing Director of the Bank of Industry; Mrs Ndidi Nwuneli, Managing Partner, Sahel Consulting; Mrs Adenike Adeyemi, Executive Director, Fate Foundation; and Mrs Oluwatoyin Asiru-Balogun, CEO of TY Farm Place were among the secular and business speakers at the event.
