Unity Bank Plc and SkillPaddy have collaborated on a ground-breaking project named the “Count Her In” tech Programme, which is a major step towards encouraging gender diversity and inclusion in the tech industry. In order to close talent gaps and promote opportunities for women in the tech industry, this collaborative effort seeks to empower and train 1,000 female beneficiaries in software engineering.

The IT skill development and empowerment program is designed to equip individuals with the necessary tools and knowledge to pursue successful careers in software engineering. With the tech industry still facing a gender disparity, where women constitute only 33% of the workforce, initiatives like this are crucial in driving sustainable change and promoting inclusivity within the sector.

Through the program, all beneficiaries will undergo comprehensive training in different aspects of software development, coupled with mentorship and resources to support their career growth. Additionally, they will receive guidance on essential life skills such as critical thinking, communication, innovation, and problem-solving, which are essential for success in the tech industry.

This initiative builds on Unity Bank’s corporate social responsibility efforts, as the bank had previously partnered with AltSchool Africa to sponsor female students in acquiring specialist software development skills. By collaborating with organizations like SkillPaddy and AltSchool Africa, Unity Bank is actively contributing to creating a more inclusive and thriving digital economy that benefits all individuals, regardless of gender.
