Three soldiers were killed and several others were injured when a roadside bomb deployed by the Nigerian Army against Boko Haram insurgents detonated on Thursday.

NewsReport gathered that according to military officials, the explosion was triggered by lightning and shook the entrance of the 27 Task Force Brigade at Buni Gari.

The bodies of the three troops who were verified dead in the event were sent to a military hospital, while those who were injured were treated.

The identity of the servicemen involved have been suppressed by the Gazette to give military authorities enough time to tell their families.

The Nigerian Army’s spokesman did not immediately respond to a request for comment on the event, which occurred as the country’s new military head, Faruk Yahaya, began implementing new tactics to combat the decade-long insurgency.
