NewsReport gathered that Rotimi Akeredolu, Governor of Ondo State, has awarded state pardons to 18 criminals as part of Nigeria’s 61st Independence Anniversary festivities.
The Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Richard Olatunde, stated this in a statement, noting that the governor also reduced the sentences of 26 additional death row convicts to life imprisonment.
“The Governor also sentenced to life imprisonment 26 additional convicts who had been sentenced to death by other courts around the state. The prisoners were freed after demonstrating repentance and excellent behavior in the penitentiary facilities, according to the statement.
The governor advised the pardoned convicts to be good citizens and not commit crimes. He also asked the people not to be prejudiced against pardoned convicts as they reintegrate into society.
