NNPC allocated N15 billion to repair the Lagos-Badgry Expressway.
The Lagos-Badagry expressway is currently being renovated and expanded, and NNPC CEO Mele Kyari made this known on Thursday, December 8, while leading the management team of the oil firm and some top government officials to examine the work in progress.
According to Mele Kyari, the road rehabilitation is being funded by the NNPC under the federal road infrastructure development and refurbishment investment tax credit scheme. NewsReport learned.
He also stated that the scheme is being carried out in collaboration with the federal ministry of works and housing, which serves as the supervisor, and the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), which is in charge of NNPC’s tax obligations.
Kyari said that the fund disbursed was part of the N621.24 billion earmarked for the reconstruction of 21 roads nationwide under the scheme.
He also expressed satisfaction over the stage of the road’s development.
“We are covering 1,804 kilometers across the country and investing over a billion naira in infrastructure across the country,” Kyari said.
NNPC, as the enabler of this project, will consider its cash flow and fund whatever the FIRS and Ministry of Works approve for the company.
The minister of works and housing, Babatunde Fashola, who was represented by the director of highways, roads, and rehabilitation for the ministry, Folorunsho Esan, said that the intervention of the NNPC will speed up the reconstruction of the expressway.
Esan added that the project was already 40 percent complete and that the reconstruction of the expressway would be completed within 12 months.
Esan, while speaking on the gridlock being caused by the Lagos-Ibadan expressway project, said that the contractor would clear all impediments and move out of sight by December 15 to make the highway free for the Yuletide season.
