JUST IN: Tensions rise as gunmen set fire to homes, cars, and businesses in Imo.[PHOTOS)

Izombe Community in Imo State’s Oguta Local Government Area (LGA) is experiencing palpable tension as a result of some gunmen attacking and torching numerous homes, cars, and businesses.

NewsReport that earlier on Saturday, four police officers were killed when suspected separatists broke into the Agwa Divisional Police headquarters in the same LGA. The fatal assault took place on Friday night.

This newspaper is unable to verify the claims made in multiple reports that the thugs who attacked Izombe on Saturday were part of the government-backed Ebubeagu security group. Additionally unknown is the attackers’ intent.

The gunmen not only destroyed the buildings but also went on a looting rampage, taking goods from the destroyed stores.

Daily Trust quotes an eyewitness as saying: “They burnt vehicles, set ablaze about 18 locked-up shops and stalls comprising of pharmaceutical stores, machine spare parts, wine, assorted drinks shops, decoration, boutique shop here in Izombe.”
