Local hunters have walked out of the Southwestern Nigeria Security Network, often known as Amotekun, in Osun State, claiming financial wrongdoing News Report gathered.
On Thursday, Nurein Hammed, the state coordinator of the hunters, spoke to journalists in Osogbo on behalf of the Hunters Group of Nigeria.
Hammed claimed that the group’s members agreed that the Osun Amotekun leadership cheated them out of N29 million during and after the state’s lockdown last year.
While requesting the overdue balance, he stated that the organization is committed to guaranteeing adequate security for the state’s people and property, but that it is unable to do so under Amotekun’s current leadership.
“We are unwaveringly dedicated to collaborating with other law enforcement authorities to defend the state from criminals.
“We took an oath to do so, but we can’t cooperate with Amotekun to accomplish those goals.
“We mounted many border patrols as well as maintain calm across the state during the lockdown that was necessary by the Covid-19 pandemic and the EndSARS rally.
“Eventually, the state government provided N44 million to pay our ad hoc Amotekun staff for their duties. However, we only received N15 million.
“The former leader is still in the current leadership, and we can’t trust them to strive toward the same goal as us because they aren’t bound by the same customary oath,” he said.
Attempts to get a response from the state’s Amotekun Corps Commandant, Brigadier-General Bashir Adewinmbi, were unsuccessful.
He didn’t answer his phone or respond to a text message about the incident that was given to him.
