Defwan Dariye: Police Arrest Ex-Governor of Plateau, Dariye’s Father’s Killers
On Wednesday, the police announced the arrest of eight suspects in connection with the kidnapping and murder of 93-year-old Mr Defwan Dariye, father of former Plateau Governor, Mr Joshua Dariye NewsReport gathered.
Mr Frank Mba, the Force Public Relations Officer (FPRO), disclosed this during a media briefing in Abuja this online information learned.
He claimed the suspects kidnapped the nonagenarian and held him incommunicado for eight days in deplorable conditions.
According to him, a ransom of N10 million was paid to the kidnappers after a protracted negotiation, and instead of releasing him, he was murdered.
“Within the last 30 days, the police have made tremendous progress, leading to the arrest of eight key suspects who played major roles in the kidnapping and murder of the ex-father. governor’s
“With the exception of a few, all of the suspects were from the same village in Bokkos Local Government Area as the murdered victim.
“This could explain why they made the heinous and costly decision to murder the old man,” he speculated.
He claimed that the crime was started by the eldest suspect, who identified the victim, recruited men to carry out the operations, and handled the ransom distribution.
Mba also stated that three suspects were apprehended on August 28 in a border community between Nasarawa and Taraba, following months of intensive monitoring.
He stated that the suspects were apprehended for illegally procuring, distributing, and selling weapons to end users, the majority of whom were criminals, kidnappers, bandits, terrorists, and armed robbers.
According to him, the suspects were apprehended after operatives from the Intelligence Response Team carried out an intelligence-driven and clinically executed sting operation.
Mba stated that the suspects had recovered a total of 26 AK47 magazines, one AK49 riffle and its magazines, and 14 live ammunition for the AK47 riffle.
He said the suspects would be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigation.
