Soldiers in the Nigerian Army welcomed Major General Farouk Yahaya’s appointment as the new Chief of Army Staff, COAS, on Thursday.
NewsReport Nigeria reports that following the death of Ibrahim Attahiru in a plane crash in Kaduna last week Friday, President Muhammadu Buhari nominated Yahaya as the new COAS.
The Defence Headquarters issued a statement on Thursday announcing Yahaya’s appointment.

Soldiers gathered in front of the Theatre of Commander’s Headquarters were seen jubilating in a video after Yahaya was announced as the new Army Chief.
A senior commander addressed the soldiers, urging them to pray for the new COAS for “Allah’s protection.”
