The University of Alberta offers Financial support for new MSc students in Physics and geophysics. The total annual support package for students holding assistantships in the Department of Physics varies depending on the programme and whether or not the student holds a major scholarship. At this time, the funding for a full-time MSc student in Physics is approximately $29,030 for students who request and receive funding from graduate teaching and/or research assistantships. A Graduate Teaching Assistantship (TA) and/or Graduate Research Assistant fellowship are usually granted over four terms each year: September–December, January–April, May–June, and July–August.

CorrosionPredictive modelling and experimental studies are underway relating to corrosion in a wide range of industrial systems.
Fluid mechanics Multiphase pipeline flow, rheology, and fluidization are at the centre of both experimental and theoretical studies of fluid mechanics.
Reaction engineering in the area of chemical reaction engineering, conversion of biomass and other waste materials to synthesis gas and value-added bioproducts, biodiesel production and utilisation, alkylation and isomerization to value-added bio products, hydrotreating of heavy gas oil, conversion of mercaptans and hydrogen sulphide on carbon catalysts, production and utilisation of activated carbon, and production and applications of carbon nanotubes were studied.

The M.A.Sc., also known as the “Research Master,”, has a nominal duration of 24 months (6 semesters) after the Bachelor’s degree. The M.A.Sc. programme consists of three one-term graduate courses and a dissertation based on research completed under the supervision of a professor. The dissertation must be an original contribution to chemical engineering and must be defended at an oral examination.
Students have the opportunity to bypass the M.A.Sc. degree after completing 6 months and enrol directly in the PhD programme, subject to a detailed and satisfactory review of progress in both research and course work. Full-time candidates for M.A.Sc. Degrees are required to spend at least one academic year of graduate study at McMaster University. All M.A.Sc. candidates must present a seminar lecture on a topic approved by the department and attend the seminars regularly.

The MSc and PhD in Food, Agricultural, and Resource Economics (FARE) are offered through the Department of FARE with two key areas of study: 1) Food and agricultural economics, and 2) Natural resource and environmental economics. Both programmes are focused on developing a fundamental understanding of economic principles and their application to agricultural, resource, rural, and related issues through research. Problem identification, conceptualization skills, and communication skills are also important areas of development.
