NewsReport Nigeria June 3, 2021
The Niger State Government has announced that talks with the armed bandits responsible for the kidnapping of the Salihu Tanko Islamic school children in Tegina, Rafi local government area of the state have begun.
NewsReport gathered that the government is aware of the ongoing negotiations between the abducted children’s parents, but that it will not pay any ransom in exchange for the children’s safe release.
The state’s Deputy Governor, Alhaji Mohammed Ahmed Ketso, stated this in Minna on Wednesday while giving an update on the abducted Islamic school children, saying, “The Niger State Government is negotiating the abductees’ release, and we are confident that the young children will be reunited with their parents in no time.”
“The government is in contact with some of the kidnapped children’s parents, and they have been told that their children will be returned safely.”
Contrary to rumors, just 163 minors, including some staff, were seized by the bandits, according to the Deputy Governor, who also stated that the government has established communication with the abductors.
He stated that all of the children will be rescued and safely reunited with their parents and that all boarding schools in the state have been switched to a day system until the security situation improves.
Alhaji Ketso also stated that the state government has outlawed all commercial motorcycle operators in Minna, the state capital, effective June 3, 2021, and that only private bikes would be permitted to operate between the hours of 6:00 a.m. and 9:00 p.m.
“These are part of the government’s attempts to address the state’s deteriorating security situation, particularly in Minna, the state capital.”
He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to providing security agencies with the necessary logistics to help them secure the state, noting that “we have so far given 89 operational vehicles, 283 operational motorcycles, 30 bicycles, and 4 tricycles in addition to funding the various security operations in the state.”
“These are in addition to the 70 Nissan vehicles and 2,300 motorcycles provided to the State’s Vigilante Corps as mobility support.”
He mentioned Karamin Goro, Sharan Daji, Girgizan Daji, Gama Aiki, Ayem Akpatuma I & II, and Puff Adder I & II as some of the security procedures put in place in the state so far to address the state’s security issue.
As a result, he urged the citizens of the state to report any valuable information on bandit activity in their region to the nearest security operatives.
