An Osun lotto operator sets himself on fire due to debts

NewsReport Seyi, the operator of a gambling house in Ikire, Osun State, is said to have committed suicide by setting himself on fire.

According to reports, the deceased, whose gambling kiosk is located in Ikire’s Centre area, locked himself in his gambling kiosk and set himself on fire.

It was also discovered that he had been severely burned before residents realized what had happened.

According to a resident of the area where the incident occurred, smoke coming from the kiosk alerted people who were initially unaware Seyi was in the shop.

“We saw smoke coming out of the kiosk,” he explained. We had no idea Seyi was there at first. He simply entered the shop, locked the doors and windows, and set himself on fire.β€œ

He was a lotto operator. I even learned he gave money to his child before leaving home that day and he just entered into the kiosk and committed suicide. He was brought dead. People suspected he ran into debts.”

When contacted for comments on Friday, Osun State Police Command spokesperson, Yemisi Opalola, confirmed the incident.

She said, β€œHe was a lotto operator in the Center Area, Ikire. He just entered his kiosk, locked up, and set himself ablaze. He died and the family asked for his corpse. Though no foul play is suspected, police will still consider some possibilities.”
