African Bankers and Financial Specialists will be Hosted by CIBN in Abuja

The largest gathering of banking and finance professionals in Africa will take place at the 15th annual Banking and Finance Conference scheduled for September 13–14, 2022 in Abuja, thanks to the efforts of the Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria (CIBN), through a Consultative Committee chaired by the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of Sterling Bank Plc, Abubakar Suleiman.

The conference will take place through Zoom teleconferencing and at the Transcorp Hilton Hotel simultaneously.

Expected at the Conference are African leaders, prominent bankers, major economic players, captains of industries, regulators, policymakers, members of the academic community and other stakeholders in the banking and finance, as well as the fintech industry, the hosts said at a media briefing in Lagos at the weekend.

The theme of the conference – ‘Repositioning the Financial Services Industry for an Evolving Glocal Context’ – is motivated by the need to articulate an actionable blueprint for repositioning the financial service industry as a major catalyst for economic advancement in the current fast-paced technology-driven era.

President Muhammadu Buhari is expected to grace the occasion along with other dignitaries such as Vice President Yemi Osinbajo; Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu; Minister of Finance, Zainab Ahmed; her counterpart at the Ministry of Federal Capital Territory, Mohammed Musa.

The chief host of the conference is the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emefiele while the President and Chairman of Council, CIBN, Dr. Ken Opara, is the host.

Chairman, Union Bank of Nigeria Plc, Farouk Gumel, will give the keynote alongside Governor of the Central Bank of Egypt, Mr. Tarek Amer.

Other confirmed resources persons are Managing Director/Chief Executive, Pan African Payment Settlement System (PAPSS), Mike Ogbalu; Group Head, Trade Finance Ecobank Transnational Incorporated, Souleymane Diagne; Chief Economist/Head of Research, Standard Chartered Bank, Razia Khan and Managing Director/Chief Executive Nigeria Sovereign Investment Authority, Uche Orji.

The conference is an annual event and the largest gathering of banking and finance professionals in Africa, with an estimated audience of 10,000. The objective of the meeting is to among others provide a veritable platform for subject experts and industry stakeholders to drive conversations and clear a road map towards repositioning the financial services industry for growth and stability.

Unlike the last two editions of the Conference, there will be one physical location for this year’s conference at the Congress Hall of Transcorp Hilton Hotel, Abuja.
