Union Bank Empowers Women at 2024 International Women’s Day Event
Union Bank of Nigeria has declared once more that it will always support an inclusive, just society that is devoid of prejudice and discrimination. In keeping with the global theme of #InspireInclusion, the bank threw a special event to commemorate International Women’s Day in 2024 and showcased this dedication.
The event, “Ability Over Gender,” gave Union Bank a chance to emphasize how much it supports gender equality and the advancement of women’s skill and competence in a variety of fields. The event included a keynote speech by the bank’s new CEO, Yetunde B. Oni, who highlighted the organization’s continuous efforts to support women’s advancement and push for the acknowledgment and inclusion of marginalized communities in settings that have historically been exclusive.

Chioma Nwokike, Head of Retail Segments at αlpher, led a panel discussion following the keynote address. Prominent individuals like Dr. Zahra Modibbo from Débbo Africa, Olajumoke Daramola from Women’s World Banking, Esohe Adetola from Shell Nigeria, and Chinasa Collins-Ogbuo from EFInA were among the panelists. These panelists shared insights on reshaping the narrative around inclusion and fostering an environment that empowers women to thrive and excel, echoing the sentiment that ‘Because She Can.’
In a statement on the sidelines of the event, Olufunmilola Aluko, Chief Brand & Marketing Officer at Union Bank, emphasized the institution’s core values of advocating for equal representation and recognizing the exceptional skills and abilities that women bring to the table, irrespective of the industry or sector they are involved in. Aluko reiterated that the underlying message of this year’s theme is a call to action for everyone to strive towards a world that is just, equitable, and where individuals are evaluated based on their capabilities rather than their gender.
