In celebration of the 75th anniversary of the African Global Bank, United Bank for Africa (UBA) PLC hosted a special edition of its quarterly Business Series to promote sustainability for medium- and Small-Scale Enterprises (MSMEs).
The event, themed “Built to Last: Building Generational Businesses,” took place at the Tony Elumelu Amphitheater in UBA House. Experienced business leaders and CEOs shared insights on how SMEs can build profitable, enduring ventures.
Notable speakers included comedian and CEO Atunyota Ali Akpobome (Ali Baba), photographer Kelechi Amadi-Obi, Chef Omotolani Tayo-Osikoya (Chef T), and Kenyan CEO Flora Mutahi. They highlighted the importance of passion, creativity, and adaptation for business success.
Ali Baba emphasized the need for businesses to innovate and stay relevant: “You must study your sector and bring dynamism to your business.” Chef T urged SMEs to identify their unique selling propositions to meet customer expectations. Kelechi Amadi-Obi noted, “Your product reflects your creativity; therefore, you must evolve.” Flora Mutahi, joining virtually, stressed the potential of Africa’s entrepreneurial spirit and the importance of persistence in brand building.
Shamsideen Fashola, UBA’s Group Head of Retail and Digital Banking, thanked the speakers for their valuable advice, highlighting UBA’s commitment to empowering business owners across 20 African countries and key global hubs. “At UBA, we’re dedicated to helping our customers grow successful businesses, which is why we conduct these sessions regularly,” he said.
