The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) resumed services on the Abuja-Kaduna route on Saturday, two days after it was suspended due to an explosion that rocked a section of the rail track on Wednesday night NewsReport gathered.
On Thursday, the corporation announced the suspension of all operations along the route after a train nearly derailed in Kaduna’s Rijanna area due to an explosion on the rail line.
But normal operations resumed at the Rigasa train station in Kaduna on Saturday after the repair of the damaged portion of the track.
Despite the heavy deployment of more security forces on the train, Channels Television observed a low turnout of passengers on the route.
Passengers demanded that more security personnel be stationed along the route to reassure commuters.
Due to the increasing insecurity on the highways, rail travel is possibly the safest and cheapest option for traveling between Abuja and Kaduna.
However, the Wednesday explosion may have heightened rail passengers’ fears, as commercial motor parks along the route have seen a surge in patronage.
