Three people collapsed on Monday after inhaling gas fumes from an illegal oil refining dump in Oduoha, Rivers State’s Emuoha Local Government Area NewsReport gathered.

According to a community leader who described the incident on Nigeria Info News, 92.3, Port Harcourt on Tuesday, the victims, a man, and two women, had gone to the site to buy fuel when they were suddenly afflicted by gas emissions from illegal oil bunkering known as ‘kpofire.’

Friday Wekere, the Youths Chairman of the Oduoha community, stated that the victims ranged in age from 26 to 35.

“They couldn’t move after inhaling the gas, and the three of them fell.”

“The eyewitness who wanted to save them almost died, but he ran back and raided the alarm.”

“So, people now mobilized and brought the three persons out around 10 to 11 pm last night (Monday),” he stated.

The father of one of the dead victims called on the Rivers State Government to come to their aid and end the illegal refining activities in the area.

When contacted, the spokesman of the state police command, Nnamdi Omoni, said he was not aware of the incident.
