The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control’s (NAFDAC) Director General, Prof. Mojisola Adeyeye, expressed gratitude to President Muhammadu Buhari for extending her position.

Throughout a Zoom press conference, Prof. Adeyeye praised the President and industry stakeholders for their support of her agency during her first term, which helped it accomplish the success it did. NewsReport gathered.

Listing the achievements of NAFDAC under her first tenure, the DG said, “Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) have tripled to N2.5 billion, while user fees have more than doubled to N15 billion.

Adeyeye also disclosed that the N3.02 billion inherited debt of the agency was paid off within her first year in office.

She said, “N3.02 billion inherited debt was paid off within my first year in office. The sum of about N180 million was discovered to be fictitious. The agency is enjoying better financial management.

“The IGR has tripled to N2.5 billion. User fees have more than doubled to N15 billion.”

Adeyeye further said that the Agency attained Maturity Level 3 in the WHO Global Benchmarking Tools, an achievement that has placed NAFDAC among the recognized regulatory Agencies in the world.

According to her, NAFDAC attained the status in the first quarter of last year, precisely in March 2022.

On her Strategic Goals For 2023-2028, the DG said that this would focus on governance, financial management, and publicity, noting, we would continue “meaningful deployment use of human capital; Sustain strong governance – expansion of directorates for greater and impactful management and obtain approval of hazard and regulatory allowance (To be funded from NAFDAC Generated User Fees).”

Independent Newspapers reported that President Buhari has approved Prof. Adeyeye’s second tenure of five years with effect from December 1, 2022.

Prof. Adeyeye, who was appointed in 2017, ended her renewable first term of office on 2 November.

Following the expiration of her first tenure, Monica Eimunjeze, NAFDAC’s Director of Registration and Regulatory Affairs, was immediately appointed as the acting director-general of the agency.
