President Buhari is briefed on the transition in Chad.

NewsReport gathered that President Muhammadu Buhari received assurances on Friday that the Tchad Republic’s transition to democratic rule, which began after the death of long-serving ruler Idris Deby Itno, is on track.

Mahamat Idris Deby Itno, the country’s current leader, who flew into Abuja to brief President Muhammadu Buhari on the ongoing process, acknowledged that there were challenges ahead, but assured that they were determined to succeed.

President Buhari urged Chad’s president to continue with the transition plan, assuring him of Nigeria’s backing.

The two leaders also reaffirmed their commitment to keeping fighting terrorism in the Lake Chad region.

The closed-door meeting was attended by the two leaders, the Chief of Staff to the President, Ambassador Ibrahim Gambari, the Ministers of Foreign Affairs, Nigeria’s special envoy to the region, Ambassador Babagana Kingibe, and the Director-General of the National Intelligence Agency, Ambassador Ahmed Rufa’i Abubakar.
