Police foiled a kidnapping plot in Abuja and arrested 16 Suspects
The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, is leading the Special Intervention Squad (SIS), which has recently achieved a noteworthy advance in the war on crime.
The squad’s efforts have led to the arrest of 16 suspects, including three Bwari-based kidnappers, in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja.
This accomplishment comes as a response to the escalating rate of kidnapping and other criminal activities in the FCT. Through collaborative efforts with various departments and commands within the Nigeria Police Force, the arrests were made possible. The Department of Force Intelligence-Intelligence Response Team (DFI-IRT), the FCT Command Anti-Violent Crimes Section, the Anti-Kidnapping Section, and other state commands played pivotal roles in these successful operations.
The recent launch of the Special Intervention Squad (SIS) by the IGP, coupled with the bolstering of the security landscape in the FCT, has proven to be a game-changer. Among the 16 suspects apprehended were three Bwari-based kidnappers—Idris Ishaku, Bala Umar, and Dahiru Salisu—who have been linked to a series of armed robberies and kidnappings in the Bwari Area Council and other parts of the FCT, Abuja.
The statement by the Force Public Relations Officer (FPRO) outlined the remarkable achievements of the combined team of operatives. Notably, the foiling of another kidnapping plot and the subsequent arrest of the aforementioned Bwari-based kidnappers stand as a testament to the squad’s dedication and effectiveness. Furthermore, the recovery of weapons from the suspects underscores the gravity of the crimes they were involved in.
In a proactive move following a harrowing abduction incident, the swift and strategic actions of the police led to the interception of the perpetrators, the rescue of the victim, and the recovery of the stolen vehicle. These commendable efforts showcase the unwavering commitment of the Nigeria Police Force, under the leadership of IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, to ensure the safety and security of the nation’s citizens.
The statement also shed light on the interception of a gunrunner, Everest Magaji, during negotiations with notorious bandits for the purchase and supply of illicit firearms and ammunition.
