Polaris Bank and NCF Launch Tree Planting Initiative in Kano
Lagos, Nigeria: September 4, 2024 – Polaris Bank Limited has initiated a tree planting program aimed at nationwide land restoration in partnership with the Nigeria Conservation Foundation (NCF) in Kano State.
The commemorative tree planting event took place at Ajingi Community Reserve, Kunkurawa, Kano, on Friday, August 30, 2024.
It is noteworthy that the Bank’s tree planting scheme began in June to commemorate World Environment Day. The theme for 2024 focuses on “Land Restoration, Desertification, and Drought Resilience.” The initiative officially started at the Tai Solarin University of Education (TASUED), Ijagun, Ijebu Ode, Ogun State.
In his goodwill message, Mahmud Kawu, Polaris Bank’s Divisional Head for the North, who represented the MD/CEO, reiterated the Bank’s steadfast commitment to the tree-planting initiative, emphasizing how closely it aligns with their values and commitment to a sustainable future.

Kawu detailed that the partnership between the Bank and the NCF stems from a shared commitment to encouraging sustainable economic growth and recognizing the significance of environmental preservation. He also urged residents to actively engage in the initiative to promote sustainable environmental stewardship.
“The tree planting initiative today at Ajingi Community Reserve, Kunkurawa, in collaboration with the Nigerian Conservation Foundation (NCF), demonstrates our dedication to environmental sustainability. The NCF, a well-respected non-governmental organization, is committed to sustainable development and nature conservation in Nigeria. Polaris Bank aligns with its mission to encourage economic growth while valuing environmental preservation.
This project perfectly corresponds with the theme of World Environment Day and aims, in addition to reducing carbon footprints and enhancing our natural ecosystem, to raise public awareness about the significance of environmental preservation.”
Kawu highlighted the benefits of the Bank’s tree-planting initiative, including the restoration of degraded areas and the prevention of soil erosion, among others.
“The advantages of our tree-planting initiative are substantial. It plays a crucial role in restoring degraded areas, preventing soil erosion, and enhancing the biodiversity of the region. Furthermore, by absorbing CO2 and regulating climate, trees are integral to reducing overall carbon footprints.
“In conclusion, this tree-planting project exemplifies Polaris Bank’s commitment to environmental stewardship and community wellness, championing a sustainable future through corporate accountability,” he stated.
