The command’s spokesperson, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, made this known on his Twitter page on Saturday.

Hundeyin disclosed that 18-year-old Ayo Olamide was arrested while removing iron fasteners from the Agege railway track, adding that investigations were still ongoing.

He wrote, “At about 5 a.m. today, foot patrol officers from Elere Division apprehended 18-year-old Ayo Olamide while removing iron fasteners from the Agege railway track.

Ayo Olamide said while being interrogated that he hails from Abeokuta, Ogun State. “I vandalized railway tracks so that I can sell it to get something to eat; it is sold at the rate of N2000 at Abule Egba for those that resell it to companies, which I don’t know the company they sell it to, and this is my third time vandalizing the rail track.

According to Ayo Olamide, there are a lot of people who have been vandalizing the track iron fasteners. It was when he discovered that they could get money from the rail iron fasteners to survive that he joined them in vandalizing the rail iron fasteners.

He said they also snatch phones from people, but because he can’t snatch phones, that’s why he sticks to vandalizing the rail iron fasteners.

SP Benjamin Hundeyin: “An investigation is ongoing.”
