IBBU – Just on Resuming plan, ASUU, Varsity Management Disagree.

The Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University (IBBU) Lapai Niger state chapter of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has denied knowledge of any resume-plan that was made public by the school administration on Tuesday.

All staff members and students were given the go-ahead to begin second semester academic activities on September 5, 2022, according to a statement signed by Baba Akote, the institution’s information officer. NewsReport learned

According to Akote, the decision was made at the university’s 55th regular council meeting held on Tuesday.

But Professor Dangana Kolo, the union chairman who spoke to WikkiTimes said the union is still on strike, in solidarity with the national body, adding that the Niger state government was yet to settle with the Joint Action Committee (JAC) of the university.

According to him, there are allowances being held by the Abubakar Sani Bello-led administration. These include; Earned Academic Allowances and Minimum Wage allowances among others.

On why the strike would continue, Dangana said the national body is agitating for the revitalisation of public universities and when the benefits come, state universities would enjoy it, especially the ‘Needs Assessment’.

The management’s decision is in tandem with the action of its Deputy Vice-Chancellor (DVC Academics) Professor Mohammed Aliyu Paiko, who withdrew his membership from ASUU, Monday, over derogatory statement by the union’s national chairman, Professor Victor Emmanuel Osodeke.

Paiko in an open letter to Osodeke through Dangana, explained that his decision was in reaction to Osodeke’s statement against state universities he referred to as “quacks and irrelevant.”
