FCTA Approves N36.5B for Sports Complexes, Magistrate Courts, and Satellite Town Projects
The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has approved N36.5 billion for various projects, including sports complexes, magistrate courts, and other infrastructure developments in its satellite towns.
Mr. Abdulkadir Zulkiflu, Coordinator of the Satellite Towns Development Department at the FCTA, announced this on Thursday in Abuja while briefing reporters on the outcome of the FCT Executive Committee meeting, the first of 2025.
The approval is part of the FCTA’s efforts to enhance infrastructure and improve the quality of life in the satellite towns of the Federal Capital Territory.
Multi-event sports centers and magistrate courts
Zulkiflu explained that of the total amount, N19.6 billion would be allocated for the construction of multi-event sports centers, while N13.9 billion would be used to build two magistrate courts.
Investment in power supply and street lighting
He also noted that N3 billion would be dedicated to procuring and installing a 33kva power supply and streetlight system.
The coordinator further mentioned that the committee approved contracts for constructing multi-event sports complexes in Abuja, Lots A and B.
Details of multi-event sports complex projects
He stated that Lot A, located at Areas 3 and 10 in Garki District, was awarded to Earthgain Energy and Environmental Services Ltd for N9.9 billion.
He added that Lot B, situated in Kafe District behind Life Camp, was awarded to Tegwa-Tegwa Nigeria Ltd for N9.7 billion. Zulkiflu stated that both projects are expected to be completed within 12 months.
“The committee also approved the construction of two magistrate courts in Asokoro and Garki Districts, costing N7.6 billion and N6.3 billion, respectively.
“These projects are expected to be delivered within 15 and 18 months, aiming to improve access to justice and legal services in the FCT,” he said.
Power supply and streetlight initiative for satellite towns
The coordinator further stated that a total of N3 billion was approved for constructing a 33kva power supply for communities from Dawaki to Bwari.
He added that this amount would also cover a contract for installing a solar streetlight system on Arab Road and U-Shape Road in those areas. He mentioned that the contract, awarded to China Geo-engineering Corporation (CGC) Nigeria Ltd, is expected to be completed within six months.
According to him, the initiative aims to improve the security system in the satellite towns.
Kano Gov launches N400 million community fund to boost crop production, combat poverty
Governor Abba Yusuf of Kano State has launched a N400 million community revolving fund to increase the production of various crops.
Yusuf presented the checks to the beneficiaries on Thursday in Kano. He stated that the initiative also aims to reduce poverty and empower communities for better development.
The governor explained that the fund is part of a larger effort to promote economic growth in the state. By providing access to capital, the fund allows communities to invest in agricultural projects, improve food security, and create more economic opportunities.
Efforts to combat desertification
In addition to the fund, the governor mentioned that the state government has made significant efforts to combat desertification by recovering land and planting over three million trees across the state.
“This initiative shows the government’s commitment to environmental sustainability and preserving natural resources for future generations,” Yusuf said.
The governor stated that launching the program highlights the importance of community-led efforts in driving economic growth in the state. He emphasized that by empowering local communities and providing them with the needed resources, the government can help create a more prosperous and sustainable future for everyone. Yusuf urged the beneficiaries to use the funds wisely for their intended purpose.
ACReSAL project as a transformational resource
Earlier, the Commissioner for Environment, Dr. Dahiru Mohammed, stated that the fund, started under the ACReSAL project, is more than just a financial aid.
“It is a transformational resource meant to uplift our communities, enhance agricultural productivity, and strengthen our fight against climate change,” Mohammed said.
He noted that the gesture aims to help beneficiaries invest in climate-smart agriculture. According to the commissioner, the initiative seeks to boost food security, improve livelihoods, and build resilience against environmental challenges. He added that direct financial support was given to 30 registered Community Interest Groups (CIGs) and farmers’ cooperatives. Mohammed stated that the CRF initiative is a key part of ACReSAL’s broader strategy to support farmers and agro-allied businesses.
“We are confident that this CRF will serve as a model for successful community-driven development,” he said.
Benefiting communities and selection criteria
He added that each of the 10 benefiting communities received a check of $25,000 from the governor at the event.
Mohammed listed the benefiting communities as Chiranchi, Diso, Kofar-Naisa, Galadanchi, Gwale, Kwankwaso, Garo, Sarigirin, Gobirawa, and Dala.
He emphasized that their selection was based on strict criteria to ensure the funds reached those ready and willing to adopt sustainable agricultural practices.
