Bolaji Lawal, the Managing Director and Regional Executive of Ecobank Nigeria, expressed the bank’s dedication to promoting the creative industry in Nigeria and across the African continent. He emphasized Ecobank’s goal of showcasing the talents of Nigerian creatives, offering them opportunities to exhibit their works both locally and internationally. Lawal highlighted the crucial role of the creative industry in driving economic growth, fostering well-being, and fostering global connections. He reiterated Ecobank’s commitment to investing in the potential of young artists for the betterment of Nigeria as a nation.
Lawal extended a special invitation to “un-galleried” emerging Nigerian artists to submit their applications for participation in the international art exhibition. These artists, who often lack representation through traditional galleries, face challenges in gaining exposure and selling their artwork. Tola Akerele, the founder of Soto Gallery, shared insights into the thematic focus of the inaugural event, themed ‘A New Heritage’.
