Controversial Move: Nnamdi Kanu Gains US Citizenship Amid Imprisonment
While incarcerated, the US state of Georgia has given honorary citizenship to Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).
On January 16, 2026, Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger signed a proclamation designating Nnamdi Kanu as an Outstanding Citizen and “Goodwill Ambassador” from Georgia.
