Commissioning of Ghana Accra National Mosque of Ghana.

The President H. E. Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo said in his speech during the commissioning of the National Mosque of Ghana.

“It’s a great honour to commission this great national monument, the National Mosque of Ghana complex, comprising of a grand mosque, the second largest mosque in West Africa, an office complex for the national chief Imam, a clinic (complete with laboratories and pharmacy) a library and a morgue, all made possible by the visionary leadership of His Eminence, Sheikh Osman Nuhu Sharubutu, the National Chief Imam of Ghana and the financial and the technical support of our friends, the government and people of the Republic of Turkey, as well as the support of several Philanthropists and technocrats here in Ghana, gathered by NewsReport.

An eyewitness at the event reported that President Nana Akufo Addo said on behave of his government the National Chief Imam and the Ghanian Muslim Community, I extend to you all especially the Turkey government and the Turkish financers of the mosque project, “our heartfelt appreciation for your kindness and generosity to the mosque and also to the people of Ghana”. You have indeed honoured our country with such a magnificent edifice. This edifice will serve as a historical reference point in I Ghana- Turkey relationship in the days to come.

The Muslim in Ghana must be Inspired by your leadership (as Executive Council and Management Committee of the National Mosque) to begin to reposition mosques in their communities to serve the unique and noble roles outlined earlier and to become centres inspiring reforms in minds and hearts manifesting in sound and peaceful environment in which our youth will thrive and make available their God-given talents and potential for the development of our country.

Indeed, the celebrated role the National Chief Imam, Sheikh Dr Osmanu Nuhu Sharubutu, has played and continued to play in enhancing peace and national cohesion must receive a further boost with the coming into being of this National Mosque Complex.

An inspiration of a leader, assuring the nation in turbulent times, he is better celebrated by emulating his examples.

Our religious tolerance and coexistence issues from our age-old practice of sitting in the classrooms (Christians and Muslims and of other religions), sharing the same table in the dining hall and sleeping in the same rooms in our dormitories.

It is common practice for Muslims to share food with their non-Muslim neighbours during Eid Celebration and for Christians to share food with their Muslim neighbours during Christmas. This is what built out a sense of religious tolerance and national cohesion, something we are very proud of as a country and which we must protect very jealousy.

Politics has divided our nation and has occasioned bitterness and rancour among the rank and file of our nation, the like of which we can not afford to have repeated along religious lines.

Let us all endeavour to live in tolerance, peace, and harmony; It is the kind of environment we need for growth and development and for our nation to thrive and become prosperous.

In the coming days, Eidul-Adha will come upon us, the feast of sacrifice. Let me make use of this opportunity to wish our dear Muslims Eil-Mubarak in advance. May the spirit of sacrifice is revived in our nation, in our citizens, so that together we built a better Ghana.

Thank You and Assalaamu Alaikum.
