Chairman of Langtang North Council Impeached for Alleged Corruption and Severe Misbehaviour

The legislative branch of the council has removed Bitrus Zulfa Rimven, the executive chairman of the Langtang North Local Council in Plateau State, from his position.

NewsReport that the legislative council informed the former chairman a week ago of acts of severe misconduct and corruption allegations made against him. This led to the impeachment.

The deputy leader claims that the former chairman, who received an impeachment notice on August 31, 2022, chose not to address the allegations made therein in an effort to dispel them.

During the day’s sitting, 14 out of 18 councillors appended their signatures to put paid to the impeachment process.

The Deputy Chairperson of the Council, Nancy Paul, was immediately sworn in as the substantive chairperson of the council with immediate effect.

BUT reacting to the impeachment, the impeached chairman, Rimven, described the vote of no confidence passed on him, as well as the alleged impeachment by some legislators in the council, as scandalous, irritating and laughable.

Rimven, in a statement he personally signed and made available to newsmen in Jos yesterday, said he remained the executive chairman of the council.
