ASUU Strike: Students make a Critical Demand while Blocking the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.

In protest of the Academic Staff Union of Universities’ ongoing strike, students acting under the auspices of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) on Tuesday shut down the Lagos-Ibadan expressway (ASUU).

NewsReport that the students, led by Simeon Kehinde Damilola, the organization’s Ogun state chairman, blocked both lanes of the expressway, resulting in complete gridlock and impeding traffic flow to and from Lagos.

Simeon described the President Muhammadu Buhari – led administration as a “failed government”, declaring their support for ASUU, saying that tertiary institutions in the country is on death roll from the continued strike.

“We have started a major action today on ASUU Strike. There is no point arguing about who is at fault or what is to be done. It is very clear that the rulers underfund education and the Buhari government is failing in its promises to revamp education.

“As it is today, no higher institution in Nigeria is world class! Yet, our so-called public servants travel all over the world spending billions to send their kids abroad for studies.

“As major stakeholders in the educational sector, we are the ones who can save ourselves. Our lecturers suffer the same hardships and mal-developments we suffer”, Simeon said.

He vowed that the students will continue their protest across major highways in the Southwest until the federal government yield to the demands of the striking lecturers.
