The star, who was 71 years old, passed away, according to Kirstie Alley’s family, who also noted that she had just recently learned she had cancer. True and Lily, her children, hailed their amazing, courageous, and devoted mother.
A family statement has revealed that Kirstie Alley passed away at the age of 71.
The actress, best known for her iconic role in US sitcom Cheers, had only recently discovered she had cancer.
In a statement released on the star’s social media accounts, her children True and Lillie Parker said her closest family surrounded her at her time of death.
It read: “To all our friends, far and wide around the world… We are sad to inform you that our incredible, fierce, and loving mother has passed away after a battle with cancer, only recently discovered.
“She was surrounded by her closest family and fought with great strength, leaving us with a certainty of her never-ending joy of living whatever adventures lie ahead. As iconic as she was on screen, she was an even more amazing mother and grandmother.”
The statement went on to share the family’s gratitude for those who had cared for her in her final days before praising Kirstie’s attitude to life.
“We are grateful to the incredible team of doctors and nurses at the Moffitt Cancer Center for their care. Our mother’s zest and passion for life, her children, grandchildren, and her many animals, not to mention her eternal joy of creating, was unparalleled and leave us inspired to live life to the fullest just as she did.”
They concluded by sharing their thanks for “your love and prayers”.

Kirstie rose to fame in 1987 when she took on the role of Rebecca Howe on Cheers. Her performances led to her winning a Golden Globe for Best Actress and an Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actress in 1991.
She earned her second Emmy in 1994 for her portrayal of Sally Goodson in David’s Mother.
Elsewhere, the actress starred on hit TV shows such as Veronica’s Closet, Fat Actress, Kirstie, and Scream Queens.
On the big screen, she was best known for roles in the likes of Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan, Look Who’s Talking, It Takes Two, and Drop Dead Gorgeous.
She also featured in Sibling Rivalry, Toothless, Summer School, and Infidelity.
Her Look Who’s Talking co-star, John Travolta, was quick to pay tribute to her following the sad news.
Posting an image of her on his social media, the star penned: “Kirstie was one of the most special relationships I’ve ever had. I love you Kirstie. I know we will see each other again.”
Cheers co-star Kelsey Grammer also shared his love for the actress in a statement given to Variety. He said: “I always believed grief for a public figure is a private matter, but I will say I loved her.”
In recent years, Kirstie had appeared on reality TV shows, competing on season 12 of Dancing With The Stars and The Masked Singer. In the UK, she also appeared on Celebrity Big Brother in 2020. She finished in second place behind Ryan Thomas.
