Senyo Hosi Slams Critics on GoldBod Blame

Senyo Hosi convenor of One Ghana Movement and the Media Coalition Against Galamsey, has emphasized that the Ghana Gold Board (Goldbod) cannot be a major driver of illegal mining woes in the country.
He stated that without establishing the Ghana Gold Board (Goldbod), the country would still have grappled with the illegal mining menace.
” One thing we should realize is that whether there is Goldbod or not, galamsey would always happen until you deal with galamsey itself.
Goldbod cannot be the reason because there is always a buyer for gold.
All we have just done right now is that the state itself is a buyer and can actually get the benefit of it other than that take out Goldbod, it will be another person next,” he explained
Hosi’s stance comes amid growing concerns over the proliferation of illegal mining in Ghana.
Recently, Imani’s Kofi Bentil had claimed that the Ghana Gold Board is fueling illegal mining by purchasing the commodity from persons involved in the illicit activity.
According to Senyo Hosi, a former Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Chamber of Bulk Oil Distributors, establishing Goldbod is one of the most potent economic policy decisions that has been taken over the last two decades which needs to be commended.
” I commend the construct of the Goldbod. Obviously, we’ve been producing gold and moving gold out of this country without much control and accountability… so you realized there’s a huge delta between the gold values that are reported in other countries coming from Ghana versus what we ourselves say we sent,” he stated
He bemoaned the smuggling of the commodity and urged Goldbod to root out the canker.
